Manner

Valis is playful. A joker. He does not hold himself like a deity in a conversation: he will lie on his belly in mid-air while Percival is talking to someone, kicking his legs in the air behind him. He leans on things — walls, furniture, railings, whatever is nearest — and drapes himself over them.

He treats Percival like a friend, and means it, for as long as Percival stays aligned with him. What happens when Percival does not is unrecorded.

Only Percival can see him. Nobody else in a room knows he is there or what he is doing.

He is also dangerous without warning. In session 6, at the beach in the evening, he tried to drown Liora — she nearly drowned — for no reason anyone could see. Percival stopped him by playing disinterested — acting as though he did not care what happened — on the read that Valis would lose interest once there was nothing to enjoy in it. Whether it worked is unrecorded.

Appearance

A towering humanoid silhouette, void-black and edged in smoke, with no face — only two burning white eyes. Above his head hangs a broken ring of white light, orbiting at an angle like a halo knocked out of true, thin and searing against the dark. His body is not solid at the edges: it frays into smoke and gold-flecked sparks wherever he moves, and a deep rust-red mantle hangs from one shoulder across his chest, veined through with the same gold. His hands are long and clawed, held open rather than reaching.

His scale is inconsistent — in percival-vale and valis.jpg he stands several storeys tall over the rooftops, one clawed hand hanging down over the street. How large he appears in the lounging, leg-kicking register of ordinary conversation is unrecorded.

Current Status (as of session 2)

A deal was struck at Percival's death. Percival tested the card called the Maiden, asked to be shot for it, and died of the wound. Dying, he made a deal with Valis.

Details pending — the terms, the price, and what Percival is on the other side of it. Also unrecorded: whether this was a second deal or the original pact being called in, since Percival was already Valis's warlock in the one-shot (session 1).
