Deity of Radiant Certainty, Open Record, and the Unshadowed Hour

Vennalune holds Dawnreach on the Concordant Tread — a blinding, sun-drenched expanse of endless midday where knowledge grows from the soil and shadows are, quite literally, illegal.

It sounds like a good god. Read the third domain first.

Vennalune's position is that privacy is where harm is stored. Every abuse, every quiet arrangement, every debt nobody wrote down — all of it survives in the unlit places between what people know. Abolish the dark and you abolish the crime. That the same move abolishes the inner life is not, to Vennalune, an objection; it is a price, and one the god considers obviously worth paying.

In Mohinders, where knowledge is hoarded, licensed and locked in private vaults, Vennalune's clergy are a standing insurgency with excellent manners.

Domains:

  • Radiant Certainty: Knowledge held without doubt and without qualification. Vennalune's power gathers where a thing is settled and fails entirely in the presence of an honest maybe.
  • Open Record: The account anyone may read. The faith's central instrument, kept obsessively, and used as both a public good and a weapon.
  • The Unshadowed Hour: A period in which nothing may be withheld. Declared over a household, a guild or a city, and enforced.

Manifestation and Symbols:

  • Vennalune is depicted as a figure casting no shadow, with the light source deliberately painted from below so the absence cannot be explained away.
  • Its sigil is an open ledger with no margin — no space left for a private note.
  • Its presence shows as things surfacing. Old letters are found. Misfiled records turn up. Nothing is exposed by force; the concealed simply stops staying concealed.

Doctrine and Influence:

  • "What you did not write down, you intend to deny."
    • The founding teaching, applied with no exceptions for kindness, shame or tact. Vennalune's clergy are exhausting house guests.
  • "A shadow is not a rest. It is a hiding place that has not been used yet."
    • The doctrine that makes the god genuinely frightening rather than merely severe.

Worshippers:

  • Archivists and licensing clerks of Mohinders, who serve Aurelthys's hierarchy by day and record what it does by night, with no sense of contradiction.
  • Auditors, inquisitors and public registrars, wherever a city has decided its own officials need watching.
  • The recently defrauded, who arrive fervent and usually leave once they understand the Unshadowed Hour applies to them too.
