Doru

What Happened

Father Donavich (played as a priestess) kept her son Doru chained in the church cellar. Doru had entered Castle Ravenloft before the party arrived in Barovia and returned as a vampire spawn — feral, hungry, barely coherent. Donavich had been feeding him villagers to keep him contained, while praying for a cure that never came.

When Vess transformed into a deer in session 4, the sudden movement and scent triggered Doru completely. He tore through the cellar, followed the deer into the Svalich Woods, and vanished into the mist.

Where Doru Is Now

Somewhere in the Svalich Woods. He did not catch the deer — Vess is alive — but he has been hunting since. The woods are full of travelers, stragglers, people the mist pulls in. He is not starving. He is not recovering.

He is still, in fragments, a person. The hunger is loud but not the only thing inside him. He is the kind of vampire spawn who knows what he is — not fully suppressed, not fully lost. This makes him more dangerous, not less, because he can reason when he chooses to.
