🧾 Session 4: The Chains Broken & The March of the Dead
⛓️ Rescuing Corvin At dawn, the party returned to the Church of Barovia to save Corvin.
They climbed the broken fence and slipped through the mist to reach the chapel.
The priestess explained that only sinners were given by strahd, Corvin convessed that he ruined entire city's while under his guild. But he is trying to rightdo his deeds.
Inside, Myra offered a desperate bargain: trade Logi for Corvin’s life. Since Myra still does not trust Logi.
🌲 Vess’s Flight Terror gripped Vess. In a surge of panic, she transformed into a deer before their eyes.
Her vampiric son Doru was loosed from his prison for the first time in years.
Snarling with feral hunger, Doru lunged after Vess, chasing the deer into the mists of the Svalich Woods. His shrieks echoed between the trees.
The priestess now believing her son had his filling, sobbing, whispering prayers to a god who would not answer.
⚔️ The Escape With Doru gone, Myra and Logi seized the moment. They cut Corvin’s chains, helped him to his feet, and recovered his belongings. The group staggered out of the cursed church, the cries of the priestess fading behind them.
💀 The March of the Dead But the land itself seemed to stir. From the graveyard, the dead rose in silence — not flesh and bone, but spectral echoes.
They drifted into a mournful procession, hundreds of souls marching the road to Castle Ravenloft.
At the cliffs below the fortress, each spirit cast itself into the abyss, vanishing upon the rocks.
A reminder that Barovia is Strahd’s prison — and he is never without company.
🍷 Return to the Tavern The party returned to the Blood of the Vine Tavern. A cloak was purchased for Vess, so she might better hide from the eyes of Barovia’s people. Sleep came heavy, haunted by the chase.
🌬️ On the Road Again By morning, they set out toward the Old Windmill.
Black crows trailed them on the road, watching, then vanished into the mist.
They found a camp of Vistani travelers, who welcomed them with food, wine, and firelight.
